Cantor Ellen Band has served Temple Beth Israel since 2001. She leads High Holyday services, and participates in services on several Shabbat and festival mornings throughout the year. She often chants from the Torah on Shabbat mornings, and occasionally serves as Kol Bo, leading a Shabbat morning service and giving the D’var Torah. Cantor Band served as the Director of Worship and Celebration at Congregation Kehillath Israel, Brookline, MA, from May 2005 until December 2010. In addition to an M.Ed., she holds a certificate in Cantorial Arts from Hebrew College. She is also an active composer, sound artist, and electronic musician.
Hazzan Yosi (Joseph) Weintraub is a TBI member who regularly chants Torah and leads our weekday morning services. He often participates in services on Shabbat and festival mornings throughout the year. His primary teachers of hazzanut include Cantor Jack Kessler and our own beloved Morris Hollender. He has studied extensively at Hebrew College with Rabbi Nehemia Polen, at Gratz College with Dr. Saul Wachs, and in the ordination program of ALEPH: Alliance for Jewish Renewal, where he received his cantorial semicha in 2012. Yosi has led High Holiday services in five states and the Netherlands, and presently serves as High Holidays hazzan for the Rutland Jewish Center in Vermont.
Morris Hollender read Torah and led services at TBI for over 40 years. While he is no longer able to participate in person, his contributions to TBI have shaped the spiritual and ritual values that will continue to guide our community now and well into its future.
